We’ve stayed in some pretty darn stylish hotels this year, from urban city retreats to ultra modern design hotels, to charming B&B’s, sleek boutique luxury hotels, swanky 5-star chains, and countryside manor houses. Out of all of them, here are our top 5 choices from 2012:
#1! Cahernane House Hotel, Killarney, Ireland
Staying in an Irish manor house in Ireland is an absolute must if you’re exploring the Irish countryside. One of the quintessential Irish experiences, they can be found speckled throughout the countryside and offer little pockets of homey luxury. I can’t begin to describe how truly beautiful this place is!
Finding a stylish hotel in Oslo that won’t drain your funds can be difficult, but the Scandic Vulkan is one of those rare exceptions to the rule. Located on the outskirts of the trendy Grünerløkka area right behind the Dansens Hus theater, the Vulkan is a hop, skip, and jump away from cute restaurants and boutiques.

Oslo is the modern epicenter of Norway and serves as a great introduction to the country. Here you’ll find the country’s top museums, nightlife and shopping. One of the most enjoyable ways to orient yourself is to take a boat cruise and see the city from the water. You can even enjoy a classic Norwegian seafood lunch of fresh shrimp on board as you watch the scenery glide by with the wind in your hair.

We’re in Oslo this week and we’re staying at the trendy Clarion Hotel Folketeateret. This hotel is right in the middle of all the action on a busy shopping street, right near Oslo cathedral, and a short walk from the waterfront too. It’s actually located right inside a shopping mall, but you won’t miss it: it’s a graphic designer’s dream with windows adorned in oversized typography and a showcase of cool low-brow art beckoning from within.
