Usually we seek out great art to decorate our walls, but British artist Charlotte Mann takes white walls and transforms them into incredible living art. Hand-drawn with a thick black marker, Charlotte’s installations showcase unique sketched worlds that can be seen in homes, offices, and even on the runway. Collaborating on several occasions with fashion designer Peter Jensen, Charlotte has created fancy illustrated rooms complete with chandeliers to serve as fashion show backdrops. It’s no secret that Seattle is a gourmet wonderland for foodies. Emphasizing fresh local ingredients, Pacific Northwest chefs are constantly seeking creative combinations of ingredients. Although you’ll fare pretty well in Seattle eating wherever you happen to be once your stomach rumbles, there is definitely something wonderful about staying at a hotel with a restaurant good enough to be a destination itself.

Hotel Andra & Lola
For those who love modern design, Hotel Andra is a cozy refuge filled with chic minimalist furniture and trendy design accents evocative of the Pacific Northwest. Located in Seattle’s hip Belltown district, Hotel Andra sits at the epicenter of celebrity chef Tom Douglass’ culinary empire. Tempting aromas of Greek and North African treats waft though the hotel’s sleek Scandinavian-inspired lobby from Douglass’ restaurant Lola. The perfect spot for a late night snack or cocktails, Lola also serves mouth-watering spreads like kalamata~fig and Kopanisti~pistachio all day. Across the street are Douglass’ Dahlia Lounge and Dahlia Bakery, famous for their triple coconut creme pie, and around the corner you’ll discover sizzling pizzas at Douglass’ Serious Pie.
These furry couches by Fernando and Humberto Campana are so fun! How great would a livingroom look furnished with these plush babies alongside some colorful mirrored cabinets by the talented duo? And I have to mention that their website is super creative as well and filled with interesting interactive experiences.

Celebrating Scandinavian Design in the Pacific Northwest
How do you make a splash in a city that oozes culture? Try playing Scandinavian design elements off Pacific Northwest ambiance utilizing two elements central to Seattle’s core: wood and water. What do you get? Iconic fish tanks filled with neon tetras and guest rooms accented in cobalt blues. A contemporary lobby outfitted in sleek, minimalist furniture that includes tangerine Arne Jacobsen chairs, natural wood tables, and high ceilings that show off floor to ceiling wood bookshelves and hanging twin lanterns. Add to the mix alpaca headboards, retro clocks, and FACE Stockholm bath products in all the guest rooms, then top it all off with an avant-garde celebrity chef restaurant that’s turning heads—and you know you’ve arrived at Hotel Andra.
For vampire lovers and creative types, you’ll find oodles of inspiration in the land of love hotels and maid cafés, among Japan’s many fantasy themed establishments. When I lived in Japan, one of my favorite places to go was the Christon Café, a lounge filled with decorative relics and church paraphernalia purchased from various churches around the globe. Everything in there was a feast for the eyes! Well, looks like there are a plethora of new places that have popped up around Tokyo recently with equally imaginative themes, like the Vampire Café pictured above. Okay, I’m not usually one to talk about time spent in the bathroom. However, I just have to make an exception for the über-luxe guest bathrooms at the St. Regis hotel in Beijing. Alright, I’m not actually just talking about the bathrooms, although the designer bath and body products, fresh flowers, and flat screen television in the mirror are certainly nice. What I’m really dying to tell you about is the toilet!
Hong Kong artist Danny Lee Chin-fai’s three-piece sculpture titled Dance of Clouds and Rain is an awe-inspiring, elemental sight to behold, housed in the skyward-sweeping lobby of the Grande Hyatt Macau. Composed of giant suspended raindrops and water rivulets spilling from clouds in the ceiling, Danny’s pieces sway slightly in the breeze, the soft curves of these stunning show-stoppers dangling harmoniously amongst a sea of geometric modernism.
